God is called "father" in the Old Testament
under twenty times but perhaps hundreds in the New Testament.
Matthew 5
16. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good
works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
44. But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do
good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use
you, and persecute you;
45. That you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven:
48. Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is
perfect.
Matthew 6:
1. Take heed that you do not your alms before men, to be seen of them:
otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
3. But when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your right
hand does:
4. That your alms may be in secret: and your Father which sees in secret
himself shall reward you openly.
6. But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have
shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father
which sees in secret shall reward you openly.
9. After this manner therefore pray you: Our Father which are in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
14. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will
also forgive you:
15. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father
forgive your trespasses.
17. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint your head, and wash thy face;
18. That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is
in secret: and thy Father, which sees in secret, shall reward thee
openly.
26. Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap,
nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not
much better than they?
Matthew 7
11. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your
children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good
things to them that ask him?
21. Not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the
kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in
heaven.
Matthew 11:
25. At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord
of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise
and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
26. Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27. All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knows the
Son, but the Father; neither knows any man the Father, save the Son, and
he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
28. Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest.
29. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in
heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
