The grain is an illustration of the Word of God
Luke 8: 4. And when much people were gathered
together, and were come to him out of every city, he spoke by a parable:
5. A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the
way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
6. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it
withered away, because it lacked moisture. 7. And some fell among
thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. 8. And other
fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And
when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let
him hear...... 11. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of
God. 12. Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the
devil, and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should
believe and be saved. 13. They on the rock are they, which, when they
hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a
while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14. And that which
fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and
are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring
no fruit to perfection. 15. But that on the good ground are they, which
in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring
forth fruit with patience.
Matthew 13:
The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man
which sowed good seed in his field: 25 But while men slept, his
enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 26 But
when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the
tares also. 27 So the servants of the householder came and said to him,
Sir, did not you sow good seed in your field? from where then has it
tares? 28 He said to them, An enemy has done this. The servants said to
him, Will you then that we go and gather them up? 29 But he said, No;
lest while you gather up the tares, you root up also the wheat with
them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of
harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather you together first the tares,
and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my
barn......36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the
house: and his disciples came to him, saying, Declare to us the parable
of the tares of the field. 37 He answered and said to them,
He that sows the good seed is the Son of man;
38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the
kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39 The enemy
that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and
the reapers are the angels. 40 As therefore the tares are gathered and
burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41 The Son
of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his
kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42 And shall
cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of
teeth. 43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom
of their Father. Who has ears to hear, let him hear. (AKJV)
Matthew 13: 31 Another
parable put he forth to them, saying, The
kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man
took, and sowed in his field: 32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds:
but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becomes a
tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches
thereof. (AKJV)
Those three parables illustrate the
Word of God as grain as does Jesus about his death and resurrection.
John 12: 23. And Jesus answered them, saying,
The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 24. Truly
truly, I say to you, Except a grain of wheat
fall into the ground and
die, it abides alone: but if it die, it brings forth much fruit.
Another illustration along those same
lines is bread, made of grain illustrating Jesus who is the Word of God.
1John 6: 33. For
the bread of God is he which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world. 34. Then said
they to him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35. And Jesus said
to them, I am the bread of life: he
that comes to me shall never hunger; and he that believes on me shall never thirst.
Luke 22: 7. Then came the day of unleavened
bread, when the Passover must be killed.... 19. And he took bread, and
gave thanks, and brake it, and gave to them, saying,
This is my body
which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Of course Jesus is the Word of God
John 1: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God:.... 14. And the Word was made flesh, and
dwelt among us,
Revelation 19 11. And I saw heaven opened, and
behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and
True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12. His eyes were
as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name
written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13. And he was clothed with a
vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
